As a homeowner, you want to ensure that your family has access to safe and clean water. However, there are certain issues that can compromise the quality of your water supply, such as backflow.

Backflow is the reverse flow of water from a contaminated source into your home’s clean water supply. This can happen when there is a sudden drop in water pressure or a backflow event in the municipal water supply. In this blog post, we will discuss the importance of backflow prevention in your home and how to ensure that your water supply remains safe and clean.

What is Backflow?

Backflow occurs when there is a reversal in the flow of water from its intended direction. This can happen when there is a sudden drop in water pressure, which can cause water to flow in the opposite direction. Backflow can also occur when there is a backflow event in the municipal water supply. This can happen when there is a break in a water main or when there is a sudden increase in demand for water.

Why is Backflow Prevention Important?

Backflow can compromise the quality of your water supply by allowing contaminated water to flow into your home’s clean water supply. This can lead to serious health risks, such as bacterial infections, gastrointestinal illnesses, and even lead poisoning. Backflow prevention devices, such as backflow preventers, can help to prevent backflow and protect your family’s health.

How to Ensure Backflow Prevention in Your Home?

The best way to ensure backflow prevention in your home is to have a backflow preventer installed. A backflow preventer is a device that is installed in your home’s plumbing system to prevent backflow from occurring. There are several types of backflow preventers available, including:

Atmospheric Vacuum Breakers: These are the simplest and most affordable type of backflow preventers. They work by creating an air gap between the water supply and the potential source of contamination.

Pressure Vacuum Breakers: These backflow preventers are more complex than atmospheric vacuum breakers. They use a spring-loaded check valve to prevent backflow.

Double Check Valve Assemblies: These backflow preventers are the most reliable type of backflow preventers. They use two check valves to ensure that there is no backflow.

Backflow prevention is essential to ensure that your family has access to safe and clean water. By installing a backflow preventer in your home’s plumbing system, you can protect your family’s health and prevent the contamination of your water supply. At Cregger Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electrical, we offer backflow prevention services to help you keep your water supply safe and clean.

Called to have my ac unit looked at as the fan wouldn't spin and the unit itself was making a terrible clicking and whining noise. Paul got the problem figured out quickly and got my air conditioner running smoothly again in no time at all. He took the time to show me what the problem was and even gave a detailed explanation of what was going on.

I had a great experience with this company from start to finish. The receptionist who answered my call and scheduled everything was very friendly, respectful, and polite, which made the process easy and stress-free. Tim Arnold, the technician who replaced my hot water tank, was also incredibly friendly, respectful, professional, knowledgeable, and efficient. He made what could have been a stressful situation feel smooth and easy, and honestly made replacing my hot water tank an enjoyable experience. I would absolutely recommend this company to friends and family and look forward to working with them again in the future!

Cregger Plumbing and Josh in particular were awesome. Had water come through basement ceiling tiles and he found a defective valve on the dishwasher that was continuously dripping. He recommended that we either get it fixed or consider getting a new one since this one is 18 years old. He said sitting was an appliance issue it was a no charge visit. No bad since he had to diagnose it.
